Scoring
BWF · 2025 · v5.0 (2)In short
Rally points, game limits and winning a match.
Every rally counts
The standard match is best of three games, unless another format is arranged. A side earns a point for winning a rally, whether serving or receiving. A rally is won when the opponents commit a fault or the shuttle lands inside their court. The first side to 21 points normally wins the game.
Close games
At 20-all, a side must establish a two-point lead. At 29-all, the next point decides the game: 30 is the maximum winning score. The side that wins a game serves first in the next one. Alternative formats are referenced by this document but are not reproduced in it.
