Football
The basics in 1 minute
The aim
Score more goals than the other team by moving the ball into their goal. Each team normally has 11 players, including a goalkeeper.
Scoring
A goal counts when the whole ball crosses the goal line between the posts and under the crossbar. Equal scores can mean a draw; knockout matches may require a deciding procedure.
Key rules
- Outfield players may not deliberately handle the ball.
- Fouls can lead to free kicks, penalties and cards.
- An offside position becomes an offence only when the player becomes actively involved.
