Formula 1
The basics in 1 minute
The aim
Finish the race ahead of the other drivers while following the FIA racing and safety rules. Qualifying determines the starting order, subject to penalties.
Scoring
Finishing positions earn championship points. A full-points Grand Prix win earns 25; the constructors’ championship combines both cars. Sprints and shortened races have separate scales.
Key rules
- Respect track limits and rejoin safely without gaining an advantage.
- Flags, Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car instructions control speed and overtaking.
- Pit stops, tyre use and car specifications are regulated; the site identifies the applicable editions.
