Keep the alternating order

Partners play a single ball, alternating who tees off at successive holes and then alternating strokes within each hole. Penalty strokes do not change the order. A cancelled or replayed stroke is normally made again by the same partner. A provisional is played by the partner whose turn comes next. Playing in the wrong order brings the general penalty: loss of hole in match play or 2 strokes in stroke play.

Correction and shared responsibilities

In stroke play, correct a wrong-order stroke from its original spot with the right partner before starting the next hole, or before returning the final scorecard; otherwise the side is disqualified. Later strokes before correction do not count. Either partner may perform permitted ball procedures. Clubs may be shared only if the combined total is at most 14. Do not stand behind a partner’s line to learn from their stroke.
