Which adaptations apply

The rule applies in every competition format for eligible players who are blind, have limb deficiencies or amputations, use assistive mobility devices, or have intellectual disabilities. Particular provisions allow aides, permitted equipment and help with ball procedures; permissions differ by category. Blind players may receive aiming help and limited bunker-sand allowances. An intellectual-disability supervisor helps generally but cannot give advice. Check eligibility and the exact adaptation with the Committee.

Wheeled mobility devices and practical adjustments

For players using wheeled mobility devices, lateral relief for a red penalty area or unplayable ball expands to 4 club-lengths. Back-on-the-line relief outside a bunker for an unplayable ball costs 1 penalty stroke. These are specific exceptions, not universal relief rules. Committees should account for physical limitations when assessing reasonable dropping efforts and unreasonable delay. Equipment restrictions and prohibitions on deliberately testing bunker sand still apply.
