Snowboarding
The basics in 1 minute
The aim
Race through the course as quickly as possible, or perform a strong run of tricks. The aim depends on the snowboard discipline.
Scoring
Alpine races use times; snowboardcross heats use finishing positions. In Park & Pipe, judges assess the performance. The announced format determines which runs or jumps count.
Key rules
- Follow the official start procedure and pass the course gates correctly; different disciplines have different requirements.
- Wear a compliant helmet and approved equipment. A back protector is mandatory in snowboardcross.
- Do not deliberately obstruct other riders. Follow the jury’s instructions for inspection, training, interruptions and restarts.
