FIS · 2026 / 2027
In short

A snowboard with a gliding surface up to 135 cm long must be at least 14 cm wide; above 135 cm the minimum width is 16 cm. Bindings are fixed diagonally across the board’s long axis, and the boots must not overlap. These are competition specifications, not advice on choosing a board size.

The rule

A snowboard with a gliding surface up to 135 cm long must be at least 14 cm wide; above 135 cm the minimum width is 16 cm. Bindings are fixed diagonally across the board’s long axis, and the boots must not overlap. These are competition specifications, not advice on choosing a board size.

In practice

In snowboard cross, a plate system connecting both bindings is prohibited, although a separate plate under each binding is allowed. A safety leash is optional under this specification unless the organiser or ski area requires one. Check the event requirements as well as the condition and secure mounting of the bindings.

Numbers refer to PDF viewer pages. Topic numbers are editorial. Snowboarding includes timed gate races, snowboard cross and judged park-and-pipe events. Slalom and giant slalom reward fast, correct runs; parallel events add direct duels. Snowboard cross combines terrain features with racing in groups. Halfpipe, slopestyle, big air and street style use judging rather than simply the fastest time.
