Grounded opponent

A fighter is grounded when a body part other than the hands or feet touches the canvas. Kicks and knees to that fighter's head are prohibited.

Active positions

Ground fighting and submission attempts form part of MMA. The referee can separate or stand up inactive fighters; holding a superior position alone is insufficient.
