Obstruction and leaving the course

Jostling or obstructing another athlete can lead to disqualification. The referee may order a rerun or advance an affected athlete where the rules and fairness require it. Voluntarily leaving the track, except under a permitted exception, ends the athlete's participation; leaving does not provide a chance to rejoin later and gain distance.

Breaklines and assistance

In races that start in lanes and then merge, athletes must reach the applicable breakline before moving inward. They must not impede another runner when doing so. Unauthorised pacing and receiving assistance contrary to the rules are prohibited. Drinks and refreshments follow the specific rules for the event rather than an unrestricted right to outside help.
