Hop, step and jump

The required sequence is a hop, a step and a jump. In the hop the athlete lands on the same foot used for take-off; in the step they land on the other foot, from which they jump into the pit. Reversing this sequence does not produce a valid triple jump.

Related long-jump rules

The take-off-line and measurement principles follow long jump, with specific exceptions for the intermediate phases. The non-supporting leg touching the ground during the trial is not by itself a fault. The final jump must land in the landing area. Board placement must suit the competition level and the applicable facility requirements.
