Building the score
The final score adds difficulty (D) and execution (E), then subtracts applicable penalties. On bars, beam and floor, D combines recognised difficulty, composition requirements and bonuses.
Execution starts at 10.00
Judges deduct execution and artistry faults from 10.00. A harder routine can therefore lose to a cleaner routine; difficulty alone does not decide the result.
Independent explanations and translations, not official federation publications. Women's artistic gymnastics comprises vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor. The all-around total combines the scores from all 4 apparatus. Qualification, team, all-around and apparatus finals serve different purposes. These explanations follow the supplied FIG code; national and developmental competitions may use adapted rules.
