Points and grounding

A try is worth 5 points, a conversion 2, a penalty try 7, and either a penalty goal or dropped goal 3. A try normally requires the attacking side to ground the ball first in the opponents’ in-goal. A penalty try follows foul play preventing a probable try or a better scoring position; no conversion follows, and the offender is cautioned and shown yellow or sent off.

Kicks at goal

A goal must pass above the crossbar and between the posts without first touching a teammate or the ground. A conversion must be taken within 60 seconds of the try being awarded; a penalty goal within 60 seconds of indicating the intention to kick. After a free-kick, a dropped goal is unavailable until the ball becomes dead or an opponent plays or touches it or tackles the carrier.
