Team sprint

ISU · 2026
In short

In team sprint, the designated leading skater completes a leg and withdraws to the outside in the marked changeover area. The next assigned skater then leads the remaining team. The final assigned skater completes the last leg alone and records the team’s finish; this differs from keeping a pursuit team together.

The rule

In team sprint, the designated leading skater completes a leg and withdraws to the outside in the marked changeover area. The next assigned skater then leads the remaining team. The final assigned skater completes the last leg alone and records the team’s finish; this differs from keeping a pursuit team together.

In practice

The order is shown by the required identification. A retiring leader must clearly move outward and stand up to indicate withdrawal, and the exchange must take place within the designated zone. The published format determines the number of skaters and laps. An individual teammate’s rule infringement can disqualify the entire team.
