The rule

Players call their own end's lines and give opponents the benefit of doubt. A ball touching an ordinary boundary line is in; a serve touching the non-volley-zone line is out.

In practice

Call out only when a clear gap between ball and line is seen, and make the call promptly. Disagreement between partners makes the ball in. Spectators are not consulted; officiated tournaments have additional appeal procedures.
