Feathered and synthetic shuttle requirements.
Feathered shuttle
A feathered shuttle has 16 securely attached feathers of equal length, measuring 62–70 mm from tip to the top of the base. It weighs 4.74–5.50 grams. The base is rounded underneath. Natural or synthetic materials must produce flight generally comparable to a natural feathered shuttle with a leather-covered cork base.
Synthetic shuttles and conditions
Synthetic skirts replace feathers but must satisfy the specified base requirements. The listed feather-length, tip-circle and weight specifications allow a variation of up to 10 per cent for synthetic material properties. The relevant Member Association may approve specification adjustments for altitude or climate, provided the general design, speed and flight are unchanged.
