Testing shuttle speed
BWF · 2025 · v5.0 (2)In short
How to check whether a shuttle has the correct speed.
Make the test stroke
Use a full underhand stroke, contacting the shuttle above the back boundary line. Hit upwards and parallel to the sidelines towards the opposite end. This prescribed method makes the landing position meaningful; an ordinary rally shot or a stroke from elsewhere is not the stated speed test.
Check the landing area
A correctly paced shuttle lands 530–990 mm short of the opposite back boundary line. Compare where it lands with this range, not with whether it clears the net. The supplied rule diagram shows the testing area and optional marks that help identify it.
