Table tennis / Rule 2.14
Correcting order errors
ITTF · 2026In short
Restore the proper order without cancelling earlier points.
Wrong server or receiver
When an incorrect server or receiver is discovered, the umpire stops play and restores the order appropriate to the existing score. Use the established sequence; in doubles also respect the first-serving pair’s chosen order for that game. Do not restart the game or award an invented penalty.
Wrong ends and retained points
If players failed to change ends, the umpire stops play on discovery and puts them at the correct ends for the current score. All points scored before any such error was discovered still count. Correction restores the procedure going forward, rather than retrospectively replaying completed rallies.
