Who controls the bout?
The referee works inside the ring, protects the boxers and enforces the rules, but does not score the bout. The referee may stop a one-sided or unsafe contest, inspect equipment, consult the ringside doctor and sanction fouls. Judges independently assess the boxing from ringside.
Stop, Box, Break and Time
“Stop” means stop boxing; “Box” means start or resume. “Break” separates a clinch: boxers must step back before attacking again. “Time” orders both a pause in boxing and a stopped clock. Boxers must obey immediately, including going to and remaining in the designated neutral corner during an opponent’s count.
