The rule

Athletes compete in compliant white or blue judogi and must pass the required equipment checks. Officials inspect approval marks, size, sleeves, trousers, belt, identification and protective items. The judogi must be clean, dry and in good condition; protective equipment cannot contain rigid or metallic elements that create a risk.

In practice

Clothing and hair must remain properly arranged. Athletes should restore them promptly during a break and must not deliberately loosen clothing or waste time. The rules group specified untidiness and time-wasting actions into a warning procedure, with a further occurrence penalised. Passing initial inspection does not remove the athlete's responsibility during the contest.
