Video review and decisions

IJF · 2026
In short

IJF referee supervisors use the CARE replay system to support correct scoring and decisions. Its use is controlled by the authorised officials; an athlete or coach cannot demand an on-the-spot replay as an unrestricted challenge. Correcting a mistake is part of the official process, not a separate scoring opportunity.

The rule

IJF referee supervisors use the CARE replay system to support correct scoring and decisions. Its use is controlled by the authorised officials; an athlete or coach cannot demand an on-the-spot replay as an unrestricted challenge. Correcting a mistake is part of the official process, not a separate scoring opportunity.

In practice

A coach can request later viewing of a specified technical situation using the prescribed form and timing. This is different from an appeal overturning the final contest decision: agreed referee decisions are final under these rules. Events without CARE may use side judges and the applicable majority procedure instead of the international video arrangement.
