WBSC · 2026–2029Fast pitch softball is played between teams with 9 fielders. Teams alternate batting and fielding; each half-inning ends after 3 outs. A normal game has 7 innings, and the team with more runs wins. The visiting team bats first and the home team bats second in each inning.

In practice
This guide follows the supplied WBSC fast pitch rules, which also contain marked exceptions for modified fast pitch. It does not describe slow pitch. The home team need not complete its final batting turn after taking a winning lead. Weather, safety and the run-ahead rule can shorten a game.
