The ball and court conditions
World Squash · 2025 v1.2In short
A ball breaking during a rally produces a let. A player who stops for a supposedly broken ball loses the rally if it is intact. A ball wedged in the court produces a let; an unusual bounce alone does not.

In practice
Request a let for distraction promptly. Changed unsafe conditions can stop play, but special rules govern dropped objects and sweat. If your movement creates a wet patch, continue or concede the rally; the opponent may request a let before hitting. The referee decides whether play is safe.
