The rule
Dangerous play, abuse, avoidable contact, deliberate distraction, delay and coaching during play are prohibited. Do not leave during a game without the referee's permission or request replacement of an official.
In practice
Depending on severity, the referee may issue a warning or award a conduct stroke, game or match. A subsequent penalty for the same offence cannot be less severe. Sanctions may apply during warm-up or after the match; they are not necessarily a fixed warning-first ladder.
