The rule
After a reasonable follow-through, clear the opponent's view, route to the ball, reasonable swing and shot to any part of the front wall. Both players must make every effort to fulfil their responsibilities.
In practice
If interference makes a safe shot impossible, stop and promptly request a let instead of striking dangerously. Effort to reach the ball does not permit pushing or avoidable contact. An excessive swing cannot manufacture a right to a stroke.
