The rule

Banked slalom follows a course with banked turns. Classic courses can use a natural gully; machine-built courses shape banks and other features into the terrain. Course design must reflect rider safety and the competitors’ level. Gate passage follows the alpine snowboard rules.

In practice

An official training run is required before competition. Dual banked slalom uses parallel courses whose terrain, banks, snow preparation and difficulty must be as alike as possible. Check the announced race format rather than assuming that every banked event is a single timed descent.

Numbers refer to PDF viewer pages. Topic numbers are editorial. Snowboarding includes timed gate races, snowboard cross and judged park-and-pipe events. Slalom and giant slalom reward fast, correct runs; parallel events add direct duels. Snowboard cross combines terrain features with racing in groups. Halfpipe, slopestyle, big air and street style use judging rather than simply the fastest time.
