Entry, helmets and course inspection

FIS · 2026 / 2027
In short

Entry depends on the competition level, the relevant age limits and FIS eligibility requirements. A compliant helmet is compulsory. Riders must know their discipline’s rules and follow the jury’s inspection instructions; inspection is not permission to race down a closed course.

The rule

Entry depends on the competition level, the relevant age limits and FIS eligibility requirements. A compliant helmet is compulsory. Riders must know their discipline’s rules and follow the jury’s inspection instructions; inspection is not permission to race down a closed course.

In practice

Alpine inspection is a slow examination of the course, not a practice run through the gates. Snowboard cross requires inspection before training and an official training run before competition; banked slalom also requires a training run. Wear the required visible bib and respect opening and closing times.

Numbers refer to PDF viewer pages. Topic numbers are editorial. Snowboarding includes timed gate races, snowboard cross and judged park-and-pipe events. Slalom and giant slalom reward fast, correct runs; parallel events add direct duels. Snowboard cross combines terrain features with racing in groups. Halfpipe, slopestyle, big air and street style use judging rather than simply the fastest time.
