The rule

At major snowboard events, supplied transponders can collect performance data for public information and television graphics. All competitors must wear them as the jury and on-site data team direct. These devices are part of the event’s presentation system, not an additional method of awarding competition points.

In practice

The data is released to competitors after the competition and only once results are official; it is unavailable to the jury or judges for decisions or scoring. Television-supplied image or audio devices must be worn when required under the specification, with the systems approved by the relevant snowboard-cross and equipment committees.

Numbers refer to PDF viewer pages. Topic numbers are editorial. Snowboarding includes timed gate races, snowboard cross and judged park-and-pipe events. Slalom and giant slalom reward fast, correct runs; parallel events add direct duels. Snowboard cross combines terrain features with racing in groups. Halfpipe, slopestyle, big air and street style use judging rather than simply the fastest time.
