Batting out of order and catcher interference
WBSC · 2025–2026Correcting an improper batter and dealing with a hindered swing.
Batting order appeals
An incorrect batter can be replaced by the proper batter during the turn, inheriting the count. After the improper batter completes a turn, a timely defensive appeal can retire the proper batter and cancel advances caused by that improper turn. A subsequent pitch or play can legalise the completed turn, so appeal timing matters.
Catcher interference
If the catcher interferes with the batter, play may continue so the offence can benefit from the result. The manager may have a choice between the play and the interference award. When the batter reaches first and all other runners advance sufficiently, the interference may be disregarded under the rule.
