Batting and fielding records

The official scorer records the result independently of the umpire’s live decisions. A hit differs from reaching because of an error or fielder’s choice. Sacrifices, runs batted in, stolen bases, assists and putouts each have conditions. A difficult play not made is not automatically an error; ordinary effort is central.

Pitching records

Earned runs are reconstructed without qualifying errors and passed balls. A pitcher’s win or loss is not simply assigned to whoever appeared last. Event appendices adjust winning-pitcher qualification and the earned-run-average coefficient for shorter games. Automatically placed extra-inning runners, and specified replacements created by a fielder’s choice, produce unearned runs.
