Umpires, conduct and decisions
WBSC · 2025–2026Officials’ authority, consultation and permitted objections.
Authority on the field
Umpires apply the playing rules, judge plays and can resolve situations not specifically covered. They control interruptions, inspect disputed equipment and enforce conduct requirements. Officials may consult to obtain relevant information, but players and managers do not acquire a general right to demand that every judgement call be changed.
Disputes and discipline
A rules interpretation can be raised through the proper procedure; arguing balls, strikes or other judgement calls is different. Abusive conduct, prohibited fighting and refusal to comply can cause removal or further penalties. Ejected personnel must leave as required. The event’s protest and video-review procedures determine which formal remedy is available.
