Using a challenge

Each manager has one challenge in regulation play and retains it when the decision is overturned. Each team has one challenge in extra innings. Only listed reviewable calls qualify, including specified base-running, fair/foul, catch, tag, force and boundary decisions. This is not a general system for challenging balls and strikes.

Requesting review

After the play, the manager has 10 seconds to signal a hold, then 20 seconds to decide whether to challenge. The manager identifies the disputed call through the plate umpire. The video official’s decision is final. Crew-chief reviews have separate provisions; the supplied appendix contains differing late-inning thresholds, so those require event clarification rather than a guessed universal cutoff.
