The court measures 13 × 10 m for men and junior boys, 12 × 8 m for women and junior girls, and 11 × 8 m for sub-juniors.

The baulk line lies 3.75 m from the midline for men and junior boys, and 3 m for the other categories. The bonus line is 1 m farther back; each side lobby is 1 m wide.

Teams alternate attacking raids and defensive tackles; it does not automatically apply the additional regulations of a professional league. A raider enters the opposing half, tries to touch defenders and returns safely while maintaining the prescribed chant. Defenders try to prevent that return without using prohibited holds.
