Class differences

A race without a wet declaration is dry. In Moto2 and Moto3, changing weather can stop a dry race for tyre changes; a wet race normally continues. MotoGP normally continues through weather changes.

Changing motorcycles

In MotoGP, a wet declaration or white flags permit motorcycle changes during the race. Exchanges occur in the pit lane under the prescribed safety procedure, not inside the garage; special start-problem exceptions also exist.

Independent explanations and translations, not official federation publications. This guide covers MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 under the supplied FIM Grand Prix regulations, updated 2026-09-13. Other motorcycle championships have different rules. Race procedures, rider conduct and motorcycle specifications work together. Class-specific exceptions matter: a MotoGP rule does not automatically apply to Moto2 or Moto3.
