Location of danger

A single yellow warns of danger beside the track; double yellow means the track is wholly or partly obstructed. Riders must slow down and proceed cautiously.

Passing and lap times

During races, overtaking is forbidden until the green signal. Practice laps affected by yellow flags are cancelled. A rider who immediately recognises an illegal pass and deliberately gives the place back avoids that passing penalty.

Independent explanations and translations, not official federation publications. This guide covers MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 under the supplied FIM Grand Prix regulations, updated 2026-09-13. Other motorcycle championships have different rules. Race procedures, rider conduct and motorcycle specifications work together. Class-specific exceptions matter: a MotoGP rule does not automatically apply to Moto2 or Moto3.
