Who may discuss rule interpretations.
Team representatives
A team may appoint a captain and up to 2 alternates, or no captain and up to 3 alternates. Goalkeepers cannot fill these roles. When the captain is absent from the ice, an alternate on the ice assumes the privilege.
Limits of the role
The captain may discuss rule interpretation with referees; this does not authorize complaints about penalties. Leaving the bench uninvited to protest can be penalized. Captains and alternates cannot be changed during the game.
