Pilot rules and competition scope
IIHF · 2026/27In short
Experimental proposals are separate from the main rules.
Pilot appendix
The developmental appendix describes optional trials, including different ways penalties end after goals. These proposals are for testing and evaluation; their appearance in the book does not make them the default rule for every game.
Apply the right rules
Use the main IIHF rules together with the competition’s adopted regulations, age provisions and announced trials. This guide summarizes selected playing rules and does not replace complete championship regulations, disciplinary procedures or official interpretations.
Independent explanations and translations, not official federation publications. Independent topic summaries of the supplied IIHF Rule Book 2026/27, version 1.0, June 2026. This is not the NHL rulebook or a complete reproduction. Women’s, junior and pilot provisions are identified separately; competition regulations govern applicable formats. References use PDF pages.
