The penalty shot

A penalty shot can restore a qualifying breakaway chance denied by a foul. The shooter starts at centre ice and keeps the puck moving toward the goal line. Rebound attempts are prohibited, with the specified post–goalkeeper–goal exception.

Awarding a goal

With the goalkeeper removed, illegally denying an unobstructed qualifying scoring chance can result in an awarded goal. Other listed situations also qualify. A penalty-shot goal does not end existing penalties, and major or misconduct sanctions may still be imposed.
