The rule

Under 19 eligibility lasts until the end of the calendar year in which the rower turns 18. Under 23 eligibility lasts until the end of the year in which the rower turns 22. Senior events are open to rowers of all ages, subject to the other eligibility conditions.

In practice

Age is therefore assessed by the relevant calendar year, not simply by the athlete’s age on race morning. Masters events have their own age-group regulations, and lightweight and para categories impose additional conditions. An athlete’s age category does not automatically establish eligibility for every boat or event on the regatta programme.
