Para rowing eligibility

World Rowing · 2025
In short

Para rowing requires an eligible impairment and an eligible sport class and status under the classification regulations. Classification is not a choice based on personal preference or boat availability. A rower may compete in a more functional class than their assigned class, but not a less functional one.

The rule

Para rowing requires an eligible impairment and an eligible sport class and status under the classification regulations. Classification is not a choice based on personal preference or boat availability. A rower may compete in a more functional class than their assigned class, but not a less functional one.

In practice

The para competition appendices define the relevant boat classes, permitted equipment and event-specific requirements. The standard classic para race uses the standard international course distance. Do not transfer ordinary equipment assumptions into a para boat: approved adaptations and classification requirements must be checked together before entry, inspection and racing.
