Objections and written protests

World Rowing · 2025
In short

Object to a sanction when it is awarded. An objection about the conduct of your race must be raised before leaving the immediate finish area and before the umpire shows the white flag. Only your own race’s conduct can be challenged through that objection; a later complaint is not a substitute for timely action.

The rule

Object to a sanction when it is awarded. An objection about the conduct of your race must be raised before leaving the immediate finish area and before the umpire shows the white flag. Only your own race’s conduct can be challenged through that objection; a later complaint is not a substitute for timely action.

In practice

Eligible crews may lodge a written protest within 1 hour of the race’s conclusion or, for a disputed published result, its publication. The deposit is EUR 100, refunded if the protest succeeds. The jury board reviews the case and may correct results or order a remedy. Not every dissatisfied spectator or unrelated crew has standing to protest.
