Aerodynamics and active wings
FIA · 2027 · Issue 3Bodywork geometry, wing modes and legality checks.
Controlled bodywork
Aerodynamic bodywork generally must be rigid and immobile relative to its defined reference frame, subject to explicit exceptions for permitted adjustable wings and seals. Devices bridging the sprung car to the ground are forbidden. Detailed reference volumes constrain the floor, wings and bodywork; passing a flexibility test does not authorise circumventing it.
Corner Mode and Straight Mode
Permitted front and rear wing adjustment controlled by the FIA standard electronics switches between fixed Corner Mode and Straight Mode positions. Straight Mode reduces flap incidence. Deployment is permitted only when stationary or wholly inside an activation zone. These technical provisions do not independently establish the sporting conditions for activating the system.
Plank and inspection
The plank assembly must have a uniform new thickness of 10 mm with a tolerance of ±0.2 mm; wear may reduce it to a minimum of 8 mm at the prescribed inspection locations. Digital geometry checks, physical measurements and load-deflection tests support enforcement. The FIA can introduce further tests for suspected movement.
