An approved reference specification

A manufacturer submits a homologation dossier covering its power unit and updates it when approved changes are introduced. A sealed reference unit supports conformity checks. The dossier applies to every supplied team, with narrowly defined exceptions for fuel, oil or installation changes. Customer teams receive installation information and equivalent operating capability under the specified supply requirements.

Controlled development

Upgrades follow the component schedule; reliability, safety, cost or supply changes require the applicable approval process. Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities depend on the FIA’s engine-performance assessment and the eligibility rules. They are not unlimited development rights. The appendix also governs availability to customer teams, deadlines, unused allowances and proof that race units match their approved dossier.

Independent explanations and translations, not official federation publications. Three supplied FIA documents, with different seasons: general provisions 2026 (Issue 03, 25/06/2026), sporting rules 2026 (Issue 09, 01/10/2026), and technical rules 2027 (Issue 3, 01/10/2026). Read each section for its stated season. Future changes are identified separately. Independent condensed explanations; the supplied PDFs remain the source.
