Controlled software and driver inputs

The FIA inspects the car’s electrical and electronic systems, and software versions must be registered before use. Major controlled systems use the FIA standard electronic control unit and approved software. Driver-input signals must faithfully represent deliberate actions. A system that detects the race-start signal is prohibited; these provisions regulate the equipment rather than describing the sporting start procedure.

Communication and safety

Car-to-team telemetry is required, while team-to-car telemetry is generally prohibited apart from the specified marshalling-system and communication-handshake exceptions. Voice radio must remain accessible to the FIA and broadcasters. Accident recording, cockpit signal lights, rescue-related warning equipment and timing transponders support oversight and safety. Manipulating the signal of a sensor used by the FIA to check compliance is forbidden.
