In short

Crash tests and load tests establish the required structural protection.

Proving structural safety

The survival cell, roll structures and impact structures must satisfy specified physical tests and calculations. Impact testing takes place with an FIA technical delegate and calibrated equipment. Parts that materially affect the result must be fitted. Significant changes to an already tested structure require further testing; homologation is not permission to alter it freely.

More than a frontal crash test

Separate requirements cover side loads, engine separation, front and rear impact structures, the steering column, headrest and wheel rim. Each test defines its own setup and acceptance criteria. A reference survival cell undergoes the full specified programme; subsequent cells face their prescribed tests. A single successful crash test does not demonstrate compliance with every requirement.
