Suspension, steering, wheels and tyres
FIA · 2027 · Issue 3Passive suspension, front-wheel steering and controlled tyre preparation.
Suspension and steering
The front and rear suspension systems must operate independently. Powered devices that alter suspension configuration or performance are prohibited, and suspension adjustments may not be made while the car is moving. Steering acts on the front wheels through a mechanical system. Power assistance may reduce steering effort, but it may not be electrically powered or electronically controlled.
Tyres and wheel retention
Tyres must be used as supplied: cutting, grooving and chemical treatments are prohibited. Inflation is restricted to air or nitrogen. Only compliant blankets may deliberately heat tyres, apart from driving the car; cooling also has specified limits and exceptions. Wheel fasteners need retention devices, while suspension tethers help prevent detached wheels escaping after suspension failure.
