FIA · 2027 · Issue 3
In short

Power unit manufacturers follow their own component categories.

Manufacturer independence

Listed Power Unit Components require exclusive manufacturer control, subject to permitted outsourcing and commercial technology exceptions. Manufacturers cannot use personnel movement, third parties or shared facilities to bypass intellectual-property restrictions. Standard Supply Power Unit Components come from appointed suppliers; their use and operation follow the prescribed specification, with exceptional changes requiring FIA permission.

Shared designs and responsibility

Open-Source Power Unit Components have shared design specifications and licensing through the FIA system. Users remain responsible for installation and operation and must report relevant problems. Defined Specification Power Unit Components follow FIA technical specifications and supply conditions. These categories do not authorize unrestricted exchange of performance-enhancing information; the appendix identifies the classification of individual components.
